How I Motivated Myself to Get Back In The Gym

December 16, 2016

How many of you have struggled to consistently workout? Maybe you’ve done it at different points in your life but fell off and struggle SO HARD to get back to it. I don’t know about you but that describes me perfectly. I’d get frustrated because I’d be so tired or completely give up from being so sore after the first day of “GOING HARD”! So I’d just complain and not go back.

People would say, “you should workout it’ll help with stress”. “You should workout to be healthy and create a lifestyle”. “You should workout and eventually you’ll see results that’ll encourage you but don’t let that be your driving force”. Umm, what! I want to workout only because I want to be “fine”. I mean come on, is there another reason to do so? I’ll just go really hard for a few days and see what happens. (Day 1) “Whew, that was tough I don’t see results all I feel is pain… I’m done.”

Clearly I had it all WRONG! Lately, I’ve been going to the gym and doing workouts at home on a more consistent basis and I feel amazing! I want to grow, I seriously want to be better in every aspect of life. Therefore, I must incorporate some sort of physical exercise. I started out just doing the elliptical, I’d go for 30 minutes and be done. Originally, I thought maybe this isn’t a good idea–I’m tired but I need to do weights and a ton of outrageous workouts to make myself sore or it doesn’t count. Only it did! It does!!

By starting with just 30 minutes on the elliptical I was excited to workout more, to keep coming back and to increase the exercises I would do. I made new goals for myself, each time I went. I noticed myself getting better at things, which gave me more drive for the next day! Yes, I still have a long way to go but I am making steps in the right direction.

My advice to anyone who is wanting or trying to get motivated in the gym is to go at your own pace. For me it was best going alone, to set my own goals and watch myself achieve them. It truly does help reduce stress if you aren’t stressing yourself out trying to reach unrealistic goals for your current physical state and the long term benefits are easier to notice! Come on ladies, and gents (if you’re reading ♥ )Lets motivate each other and ourselves to just get started!! Getting into the habit will take you a long way.

What exercises do you do? What helps you stay motivated in the gym and to live a healthy lifestyle?
